Journalist Cristina Nicolotti Squires gave an inspirational speech to students at Coulsdon College on Friday 9 December.

Recently appointed by Sky News as its Director of Content, she will be heading its TV channel, mobile, social media and radio output.  She will also be in charge of Sky News documentaries, special debate programmes and recently launched debate show The Pledge.

Cristina Nicolotti Squires has been in the news broadcasting industry since 1992 when she started at LNN as a News Editor. She branched into ITV becoming a Programme Editor and then Assistant Editor and Head of Output at ITV.  This led her to 5News where she has been the Editor for the past 3 years.

Students were able to hear first-hand about her extensive career and particularly about her experiences of covering atrocities in Syria as well as the American Presidential elections and 9/11.  Illustrated with video material, this first-class journalist was able to demonstrate her creative flair, and students from across the College found it to be hugely inspiring.

Squires says, “I have had the most amazing 22 years at ITN and been lucky enough to have been given some great opportunities. But it’s time for a new chapter in my career and I am delighted to be joining Sky News at a really exciting time in the development of news across all platforms.”
