Psychology

Qualification: AS/A Level OCR

Duration: 1 / 2 years

The skills and knowledge gained through the Advanced Subsidiary GCE and Advanced GCE in Psychology will give students a better understanding of psychology and its application and impact on their lives. Psychology explains the scientific findings that underpin our ability to understand and predict human behaviour. It allows students to consider different issues, such as how individuals and groups affect our behaviour. Memory - how accurate is eyewitness testimony? What do computers and the human brain have in common? Crime – Do you know that 9/10ths of our brain is unconscious? Is there something different about criminals compared to non-criminals?

Particular attention is paid to identifying contemporary examples of psychology in everyday life. In this way you will be encouraged to consider many modern day dilemmas, debates and issues surrounding human behaviours such as freewill and determinism. At AS students will study 5 main approaches, 2 perspectives and research methods and at A2 students will build on this by taking a closer look at Forensic psychology and Health and Clinical psychology as well as Research Methods.

In addition to the general entry requirements for this subject you will also need at least a Grade C in Maths
