This course enables students to reach a standard equivalent to 4 GCSEs through
coursework based assessment. There are no exams. The course consists of 6
units covering a wide range of science topics: Scientific Principles, Science and
the World of Work, Chemistry Applications, Physical Science Applications,
Anatomy and Physiology, and Forensic Science Applications. Successful
completion of the course allows progression to the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in
Applied Science or to a relevant GCE A Level programme if a distinction grade is
obtained. It can also lead directly into employment in the science industry.
