Physical Education

Qualification: AS/A Level PE OCR 3/7875

Duration: 1 / 2 years

This course takes a multidisciplinary approach to the varied and interesting field of PE and Sport. Topics such as mental focus, physical fitness and movement analysis allow you to see how they integrate to produce optimal performance.

Socio cultural aspects explore how sports organizations and the Olympic Games impact upon participation and success in sport. The interaction of practical with theory is essential to your understanding and is combined where possible. At AS the theory contributes to 60% of the final marks in one examination and practical assessment involves specialising in two activities as a performer, coach or referee and an oral evaluation of a live performance.

This makes up the remaining 40%. You should be at least club level in your chosen sports. At A2, the theory is 70%, practical is 30% where only one activity is assessed and again an oral assessment of a live performance. This course provides an excellent grounding for HE courses or careers in teaching, coaching, Sports Science and Sport Psychology.
